Use sewable Vlieseline Stitch-and-Tear embroidery backing as a temporary stabiliser for a variety of needlework techniques, such as embroidery, appliqué, quilting or patchwork patterns – it can be removed afterwards. With (machine) embroidery, this embroidery backing prevents the fabric from stretching during embroidery. The backing can also be stretched in an embroidery frame. With appliqué, the backing gives the fabric strength, so that the appliqué can be sewn neatly to the base. Furthermore, embroidery backing is excellent for patchwork techniques such as foundation piecing to accurately assemble intricate blocks such as Mariner's Compass, Storm at Sea or Virginia Reel. Also ideal for crazy patchwork. The patchwork design is drawn on the embroidery backing, after which the various patches are sewn on via the drawn pattern lines. This backing is made from 70% rayon and 30% cellulose, is washable up to 30°C and has a weight of 40g/m2. This Stitch-and-Tear embroidery backing is 30cm wide and is available in white.

PROCESSING VLIESELINE STITCH-AND-TEAR

For quilting, appliqué and patchwork, draw the pattern on the backing and sew the appliqué or patchwork pattern to the base. To embroider, place a piece of embroidery backing slightly larger than the embroidery design under the fabric, baste it and embroider the desired design. Tear off the backing afterwards.
